Wearing My Roots

Sacha Celine Verheij

Dear visitor,

Thank you for finding your way here.

Wearing My Roots‘ is a spoken word EP and audio story by Sacha Celine Verheij, taking the listener through her family’s history, search for identity and putting her roots from the shadows into the light.

You can navigate the site by scrolling down, going from one track to another. Around the three spoken word tracks, you will listen to interview snippets of her Dutch-Moluccan-Surinamese family members.

Sacha spoke with her mother Esmeralda, aunt Margot, uncle Eddy, cousin Zoa, aunt Daisy and cousin Nica. She asked all of them the same questions, this way she researched how they perceive their background and identity. This is Sacha’s way of adding underexposed narratives to the archive around the Dutch colonial history.

Enjoy the journey and share your experience!
